Daydream Nation

I found this on netflix yesterday and watched it last night and give it a 4*'s. It has Kat Dennings, Josh Lucas, Andie MacDowell, and other people that are pretty much unknowns. Kat Dennings' character Caroline moves to a small town that's really kinda odd and cruel. She starts off with a tale of a girl in high school who had perfect attendance, even though she worked nights at a stripclub. This poor girl every day had to deal with people, especially jocks heating up coins and tossing them on her leaving burn marks. Her body turned up dead eventually, as well as a few other women who are victims of the man in the white suit. [I know, so ominous ;)] Anyways, back to Caroline, she pretty much off the bat catches the eye of a stoner kid, who really is a sweetheart, and immediately falls in love. His best friend dies the same night, and he carries that guilt with him, and Caroline heals him and makes him better and more respectable. However, Caroline harbors her own little secret, she is secretly sleeping with the newest teacher to her school, who it turns out isn't quite right in the head. He makes a book based on him where his fiancee cheats on him with his best friend and he discovers them when he comes home early, He then moves away to his hometown and calls all the people he used to know asking them questions in a british voice saying it's for research: How much money do make? Are you happy? How come? What do you think they end of the world will look like?

Caroline and the teacher, Barry, use the stoner kid, Thurston, as a cover so no one gets suspicious. When Caroline breaks things off with Barry because she fell for Thurston, he goes a little crazy and keeps Thurston after to tell him everything. Thurston goes home and blows up at Caroline, and immerses himself in drugs and a party. Caroline is on her way to the party when she crashes and in the process kills the killer in the white suit. She goes the next day to make up with Thurston and is successful! She apologizes and he says 'Why? You healed me.'

This movie is truly great, I am so glad I watched it, and highly recommend it to you.

Chalet Girl

So, I am addicted to Gossip Girl, and of course I had to see Chalet Girl with Ed Westwick in it. I must say, I loved it, much to my surprise. A girl who used to be a skateboarder lives with her dad and they need money so she got hired as a Chalet Girl in Austria for Ed Westwicks' family. She is really only needed as a cook and waitress and has the rest of the time to herself. She picks up snowboarding and becomes great, making great friends along the way... and falling for Ed. Ed is currently dating someone else but still falls in love with ehr anyways. It was kinda lame when I realized what was keeping her back from making the bug jump was a car wreck and her mom died, just like every other movie, i.e. Save the Last Dance (great, great movie). She enters a snowboarding contest by Roxy offering $25,00 grand to the winner, but can she make it? We already know that she hesitates... Some great songs are included, especially one by LostProphets. Check it out! 4*'s!

Hey Hey Hey!

Today I will be writing about Lost in Austen.

First, let me make this very clear do not see this!!! I can't even give it a star, that's how awful it was to sit through. The only thing I could appreciate about the movie was how it made you question how things could have been different but it was just too much. First off, the main character finds a way in to the Bennett home from her apartment and switches places with Elizabeth. And Mrs. Bennett is an insufferable bitch. at least in Pride and Prejudice she wasn't annoying, she was quite comedical. Caroline (played by Clarissa "What a Girl Wants"), is a lesbian! She makes a pass at the main character when she says she is gay just to make sure a match is secure among the bennett sisters. Mr. Bennett I though would be cool, but he's callous, and a pain, he just doesn't care (reminds me of my mom actually...) Jane ends up marrying Mr. Collins, and Charlotte goes to Africa to help there because her and Elizabeth made a pact that if things ever got so bad  and they couldn't take it anymore they would just go. Mr. Bingley can't have Jane so he turns into a drunk who is a grump. And ends up with Clarissa after Mr. Darcy's engagement to her falls through, and oh the horror!!!

I couldn't watch or read Pride and Prejudice for way too long after seeing that wretched film. Mind you, Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book.

Please, save yourself the trouble and get Lost In Austen another way...

Much Love,

Take note, obviously these reviews on the cover can in no way be real, because it is awful.

Love's Kitchen

Loves Kitchen was made in 2011 and has Dougray Scott and Chef Gordon Ramsay. I love, love, love Dougray in Ever After so I was anxious to see this, unfortunately I was quite disappointed and when it stalled on Netflix 10 minutes til the end I didn't even bother to finish it. You might feel otherwise, it is cute and how i would imagine it would be in real life for those trying to date again after either having their spouses die, or separation from their spouse. Chef Gordan Ramsay is Dougray's closest friend and is unknown.

This movie shows two people with  broken hearts who surprisingly fall in love, she is a food critic who just happens to critique his new gourmet restaurant which was a former broken down pub.

Watch it if you want, but you have been warned.

From Prada to Nada

4*'s, this movie is the much, much better version of Cowbelles and Material girls. Those movies were, well, not super fantastic like this is.

This movie stars Camilla Belle and Alexa Vega who lose their father and have to move in with their aunt because their surprise illigitimate brother's wife kicks them out and redesigns their place just to sell it! Their aunt takes them in but she lives in East L.A. which is a far cry form Beverly Hills. In that town, they meet Wilmer Valderamma who Alexa Vega writes off for the first half of the movie  in favor of trying to find a way back to her old life as she is the type of Beverly Hills-ite who parties, shops til she drops, and always tries to get her hands on rich, good-looking men. Meanwhile, Camillas' character tries to avoid life as it does not fit into her ten year plan of law school and becoming a lawyer, she eventually does good by those she meets on her new choice of commute, the bus; by doing pro-bono work to help them overcome their horrible bosses who are being unfair... and manages to find a little love, but can she open herself up all the way?

This movie is a loose interpretation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, and well worth watching! If you hurry it may still be on Netflix, Happy watching!

Much love,

Avg Girl

Wake

Hey bloggers,

Sorry missed a few days. Thing's have been pretty crazy here in Homaha, Been catching up with my life.

New movie review: Wake, which stars, our favorite vampire! With a smile as wicked as his moves, Damon Salvatore. (i.e. Ian Somerhalder)

Bijou Phillips is the female lead, and is like all of us. Looking for the light, a connection. She is emotionally isolated and goes to strangers funerals hoping to feel something. At one fateful funeral, she meets Tyler (Ian) and he is in mourning over his recently deceased fiancee. Not heeding the warnings from her undertaker friend, and her roommate she carries on with Tyler, and falls for him.

This movie is about a womans journey through life who tries to find something to connect to after a hard life, and mysteries surrounding her sister. And her road to love. it's very hilarious and suspenseful, and honestly, Ian Somerhalder just makes your heart melt, but then again, why wouldn't he?

Model Student: A Tale of Co-eds and Cover Girls

Book Review:

This book is set in the 80's as Emily Woods tries to get her big break: and when she does she tries to balance college and fame, along with everything that comes with it. As she travels further down the model path, she starts to blur the lines between the two and must make a choice between style and substance.

I love this book, and rate it 4 1/2 *'s. I have read it countless times, and I'm sure you will love it too. It has 400 pages but is fast-paced.

Full Belly Bowl

This is a kids book full of beautiful, creative pictures that shows just what can happen if you are kind and help others. An older man who lives with his cat and is very poor hears someone screaming for help and runs to their rescue. He feeds him, mends his clothes, and takes care of him; after a few days he leaves and left a note with a bowl. Many mishaps happen with this bowl, much to his surprise it duplicated things! making him rich enough to buy a new vest and plenty of food. Read it to find out more!

It is one of my favorite kids books and I bought my very own copy last year to read to my 1 year old boy. And will forever hold on to it, and keep it close to my heart.

Read it and let me know what you think! :)

Cheri

Cheri was honestly a disappointment and hard to pay attention to, much to my dismay. Michelle Pfeiffer, Rupert Friend (Mr.Wickham, Pride & Prejudice), Kathy Bates and may others star in this film where courtesans take lovers, friends are unconcerned with your heart, and spurned lovers abandon their wives in search of something more meaningful.

Kathy Bate's is Rupert Friend's mother in this film and feels the need to tame his boyish ways and get him to know how to treat a lady so hires her friend (Michelle Pfeiffer) to do it to celebrate the inception of her retirement as a courtesan. Little do they know the love that will follow, turning one weekend in Normandy into 6 years. When he has an arranged marriage they try to deny their feelings for eachother but can't shake it....

It's very sweet and romantic, but Rupert's character is irritating and very arrogant. I can't imagine being that position, I cried quite abit and my heart truly went out to them.

Funny Girl

                                                                     Funny Girl

Classic movie, a must-see for any romantic. But be warned, it's a musical! And a rather remarkable one at that.

Funny Girl is excellent, with amazing songs and costumes. definitely one of my top two favorite musicals. and for all of you who aren't big on barbra streisand, i must admit, i used to be the same way. yes, she was great in hello dolly, but she just kinda blipped off my radar, and this turned it around. her acting is superb, as well as her singing, no doubt. it's a very entertaining funny movie that will weave itself through your heart strings.

5*'s!

Love Story, baby just say yes :)

Book Review:

                                                    Love Story by Erich Segal

This is a novel from 1970, old but still timeless. The novel isn't dated at all, very much like today and very easy to follow. I got this from my aunt as she loves this story too.

There is a movie based on this novel but honestly, don't waste your time. It's awful and unbearable.

One of my favorite love stories, a few "stories" below Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth and other amazing couples but it is worth the read!

Oliver Barrett III and Jenny Calliveri come from different worlds: him the privileged jock who is not in the best relationship with his father, oh yeah, and he has many buildings/halls at Harvard (where he goes to school) in his families name. Jenny has much more humble beginnings, her father owns a bakery shop in Cranston, Rhode Island, and she attends Radcliffe College with dreams of going to Paris to study with a famous music instructor and got accepted.

Just like all of us couples today: they fight, and they bring out the best in eachother making them reach higher to get things right. The most memorable quote which is used quite often is "love means never having to say your sorry".

This movie makes you laugh, and cry, and realize what love does to you, and how it transforms you no matter how or in what form love comes to you.

5 Stars! (worth way more though) :)

Much Love,

Avg. Girl

April Showers

Hey you mighty Ponderers'! (lame, sorry)

For the First Movie Review,
                                                                    April Showers!

This is an independent film by Andrew Robinson, filmed here, in Nebraska. It's based on Columbine and the aftereffects on the students. This story will forever be close to me heart, and let's be honest, will always make me cry.

Stars cast in this film are Darryl Sabara (Spy kids very own Junie), Kelly Blatz (Aaron Stone, Glory Daze, Sonny with a chance, Prom Night), Tom and Mark Arnold, Illeana Douglas (Message In A Bottle, Ugly Betty, Drew Carey Show, and countless other films.), also some other rather unknown actors.

As USNewsDesk puts it "Andrew Robinson's "April Showers" is like Oliver Stone's "World Trade Center." We relive a day that stunned the world. We look for triumph over tragedy at the most intimate level.

It is an intense film. The MPAA found its content disturbing. I disagree. What they meant was that it unlocks the deepest feelings of innocence lost.

The softest targets, we all are. Protectors unprotected. The hero inside ignored. The survivor looking over the dead. The dead looking over those still standing.

The history of the world in fewer days than God took to create it.

And who is left to create charity, hope, and faith?

The answer comes from a director with a sure hand, in real life a young playwright at Columbine High School 10 years ago whose next leading lady was to be a student named Rachel Joy Scott."

I rate this movie 5 Stars! and wait for it to be restocked on Amazon so I can order it to add to my DVD collection.

I was on set as an extra for this movie, and let me just say, these are great people, and Illeana is truly a delight. And the cast is very funny and fun, of course :).

Add this to the top of your list of movies to see and report back to me.

Much Love,

RELIGION and THE MIGHTY MOUTH

I was planning on doing one post a day but I am extremely bored and fighting a nap even though i need it.

What are your opinions on god?

I would like to believe there is one but it's hard. I do pray. but unsure if it makes a difference. Don't mean to get into something so controversial on my second post but I just wanted to know your input. My family does. and my mom and step-dad they go to church every few months, and occasionally kick it up to everyweek but only for a little while. They are the people who if they take a leave of absence they come back just for potlucks or easter, (easter egg hunt), and when we do, we have to go to sunday school; my least favorite part. I don't see them pray, and they are by no means christians in how they live their lives. Nothing horrible just not anything i would expect christians to act like. Honestly, I think they go just to keep up appearances and to socialize. Honestly, my mom will stand there talking for 2 hours after the service or well, til everyone leaves and she has talked their ear off. and we keep wondering when are we gonna go, kinda starving here. She is always talking, and making us wait on her.

I moved out the so i am no longer waiting on her, or being her little slave. (topic for another time...)

Sorry got a little carried away but hey, it's a blog! it's meant to be a means of expressing how you feel!

Much Love,

Avg. Girl

Something simple to start with....

K lets, get down to business. Fashion is my life. I am a frequent flyer to Polyvore using my magical router. I may be 19 but it helps me relieve stress and I enjoy putting outfits together, and lets be honest: it's much easier putting outfits together with pictures and that database if you will, than drawing designs. But i do draw designs too. I may not be a fashionista in my town, but only because I am way too practical to dress like that. Occasionally i do, but I am much more a t-shirt and jeans girl. This tiger can't shake her stripes.

My favorite designer is Oscar De La Renta.

Style Icons: Audrey Hepburn,  and well I'll just stop there. Inspiration is everywhere. You just have to pick out what is right for you and add it into your style.

Hair Icons: Lea Michele, Christina Hendricks, Emmy Rossum, Rachel McAdams, Paris Hilton. And well, quite a bit more actually. They always do something great with their hair whether its from how the style it or just the color. I am quite jealous over it, my hair barely cooperates with me, and my curls don't exactly help.

What are yours?

(P.S. I promise the next posts will be better.)

Much Love,

Avg. Girl
